Is grain okay for my dog? Is there any other alternative to it?

Herbivores are used to digesting and utilizing plant material but your furry friend since ages are accustomed to eating meat, so an “only-grain” diet might not suit them and can lead to obesity. It is possible for you to substitute meat in their diet by pounding it and diluting it with water for easy consumption. We also have a fairly natural and grain free substitute in the form of 'Drools Focus' available for both puppies and adult dogs.

A lot of people suggest not to feed milk to my dog. What is your opinion and is there any other alternative to milk?

Every dog has different reactions as to how they handle lactose (specific nutrient) present in milk or other dairy products. Some might have no problems with it and others might experience gas, diarrhea or even vomiting. And if your dog is lactose intolerant, you can go ahead and give them lactose-free milk, soy milk or even almond milk. One can also use vegetable or chicken stock.

What type of food is healthier for my pet/s?

The body requirements of a pet are to get both home cooked food and also dry food to maintain proper body weight and health throughout. A balanced diet leads to fewer diseases and more activeness for them. Dry food can be found in our websites 'Food' section for both puppies and senior dogs and also for different breeds.

Can I feed non-vegetarian food to my dog/cat?

A proper diet for both humans and animals needs to be filled with nutrients and so it is good if you feed non-vegetarian food to your pet. For example, chicken is a high protein diet and is packed with nutrients. We recommend you to add chicken to your furry baby's diet right from the early age of the baby. We have some brands of non-vegetarian dry food available in the dry food section.

Can my dog/cat survive only on vegetarian food?

Your dog/cat is omnivorous, so they have an adaptable tract. It is perfectly fine if you want to go ahead and raise them with a vegetarian diet. The only condition being that it should be filled with the proper nutritional content and is balanced particularly with enough proteins and vitamins. We recommend you to add curd, boiled vegetables, soya chunks and soya granules to the diet. We have 100% vegetarian dry food in our dry food section on the website. And there are 14 foods that you can go ahead and share with your pet.

How many times should I feed my furry baby? And what to feed them?

Puppies or kittens under the age of 5 months should be fed five times a day and their food should include puppy cerelac, puppy food, gravy, an adequate amount of milk mixed with water, curd, scrambled egg, chicken stock, boiled vegetables, fruits (diluted form for easy consumption). You can also buy cow milk from a nearby dairy. When they’re about 6 months of age you should feed them 3 times a day and their meals should now include rice, bread, roti, small chicken pieces and you can add chicken stock as well, start incorporating adult dry food once a day also. For older furry babies, it goes up to twice a day that is once in the morning and once in the evening, along with little 2 times snacks in between- a bowl of milk, a portion of dry food, a packet of gravy. For an understanding of your pet's eating cycle, you should get proper directions from your vet and create a feeding schedule which helps discipline your pet about both the timing and the portions of food. If you need a proper dietician or any consultant for your pet you can contact us at 09711327633 or leave a message at hello@pawsalittle.comand we’ll get back to you with the information.

Exercise is very important for your dog but when they come to you as a puppy you should be pretty careful to not overwork them and start their exercise once they are 3 months old so that their body is used to the increase in activity in their growing age. The puppy at a young age will be very active and playful. They will also start teething, thus biting into your shoes and sofas. We recommend you some small toys and chew sticks. Yes! Training is very important for your furry friend. It provides a mental stimulation and that keeps them happy. Training will also help you to build a strong relationship with them and to fix bad habits. They will end up learning some obedience commands and that leads to safety for your dog. You can use a leash or a harness to train them which can be found in our Collar and leashes department. We have an article about training your puppy as well, it might be useful for you. Is taking my dog for a walk a necessity, even if I have a huge balcony?

Dogs come with a responsibility for you to exercise and train them and they are not suited to be left alone for a long time without socializing. It is recommended for you to take your dog for a walk 2 times a day, even if you have a huge balcony. This will help them see the outer world and feel the fresh air. Being at home is a good thing for them but they need to have a balance of seeing the outside world and interacting with other dogs, humans and also the natural environment. This helps them to open up to the surroundings and be more acceptable and energetic as well. We do recommend you be part of events like dogs day out. You can call us to know more about such events.
